In its native area in Brazil, the Stromanthe Triostar is commonly found in the pluvial forest by the clearings from the sea level up to about 1700m of altitude.
The botanical name of the species is dedicated to one of the pioneers in botany from Germany Johannes Thal. Stroma is Greek for layer/bed while Manthe means flowers/bracts that contain flowers.
Highly sensitive to low temperatures, Stromanthe triostar will thrive best when the environment is humid and placed in a shady area.
