The Swiss Cheese Vine grows abundantly with their vine-like tendencies under the coverage of trees. In the tropical jungle, the climbers are commonly found near the river valleys at lower elevations.

They are an immediate interest for planthouse collectors with their striking, perforated green leaves. Many botanists believe their leaves are uniquely filled with holes because in the wild, their unusual oval holes function to leverage up to high winds and their way to compete for sunlight is by focusing on more coverage area to grow, rather than fully developing leaves.

Fun fact!

They are commonly confused with Monstera obliqua – the latter is a much rarer plant, with thinner leaves and strikingly larger holes.
