Their original habitat is in coastal marshes and disturbed areas along the coast. Almost never in the forest except in tree-fall areas they occasionally are on creek beds and shoreline soil deposits.

Calatheas are usually short in height, but these Cigar Calathea can grow up to 3m height! They are distinct with their eloquent broadly ovate leaf blade that is bright green on top and wax-silver below.

Like any other prayer plant, they sway differently. In the morning, the leaf blade is horizontally oriented and flat, while at night, it becomes more vertical and folds in half – that’s why they’re commonly called a prayer plant!
