Aglaonema plants were first cultivated by the Chinese and slowly made its way to Europe and America in the 1800s and received their common name of Chinese Evergreen. It naturally became popular because of its low maintenance care and vibrant foliage and still remains popular till today. The fame it received created many hybrids that offer a range of variegated leaf patterns in shades of green, yellow, white, pink and red.
They do not come from Mainland China however, they were originally native to humid, shady tropical forest habitat of Southeast Asia and New Guinea. In Indonesia, it is commonly called Sri Rejeki, meaning the plant of fortune.
